The Return of the G-unit: Or, Welcome Henry!

After a very long hiatus, here I am blogging again. Now, with our new addition--previously known as "the little g-unit" now officially part of our lives as Henry Shaun. Keeping with the title of this blog, the g-unit will continue to exist at this site, and reference not only Henry, but our Gemborys unit of me, B and Henry.

Henry Shaun, just moments after birth

Most readers will already know this, but Henry arrived in our lives on March 2, 2008 at 2:01 pm. His birth felt like it was a long time coming, as he was about a week past his due date and the product of over 30 hours of labor. Our boy was clearly thriving in the womb, coming into the world at a whopping 10 pounds, 4 ounces. No wonder he didn't want to leave. But alas, all good things must come to an end. And in this case, one good thing has led to an even better one. Henry appears to continue his thriving and prodigious growth outside the womb as well. He's a good eater, good sleeper, and generally a happy and easy baby (if there's such a thing as an "easy" newborn). We of course have our moments of angst and crying for no apparent reason, but I think that's par for the course. We have also recently begun to have many more moments of rapt attention, focus, and smiling. That is, the attention, focus, and smiling have been coming from Henry. B and I have been attentive, focused, and smiling all along, I hope!

Henry and his proud parents have had many visits from our wonderful friends and family, and we even made a journey to my family in Pittsfield for Easter last weekend. Henry met lots more eager family on this trip, and was even introduced to the older (by three weeks) woman in his life, baby Madison. Henry (and me and B) is lucky enough to have a large extended family of great grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many second cousins and other loving relatives.

This weekend we had hoped to attend a birthday party for three year-old Hannah, but Henry had other plans. Primarily, crying and fussing. Henry did meet Hannah and her six month-old brother Christopher last week. I'm sure they'll be future friends here in Shrewsbury. Henry's other future pals include his cousins Evan and Liam. They've met on several occasions during the past four weeks. This Friday we enjoyed a visit with the boys and their mom, Cioci Nicki. Evan continued to be a good role model for his little cousin Henry. This time, he taught Henry a thing or two about how it's okay to feel comfortable with nudity (Henry doesn't like being without clothes, Evan's currently feeling the opposite).

Today, we're hoping to go for a nice walk outside in a local park. Henry has enjoyed many walks with me during the past week, and while it's a little chilly out I think it'll do the family good to get some fresh air and glimpse some of the budding foliage and flowers around us. Here's one final, recent pic for this post. Many more to come.
